Have You Been Sued in Texas?

Texas law requires an individual or company which has been sued to file an answer or document contesting jurisdiction shortly after service of the lawsuit. If no answer or document contesting jurisdiction is timely filed, the individual or company is at risk of having an default judgment entered against them. Additionally, in Texas, corporations cannot represent themselves in legal proceedings, and, therefore, must retain legal counsel to represent them. Depending on the facts of each case, the Texas court may not have jurisdiction over a particular individual or company.
